Post-Democracy?

Now that representative democracy has proven to be a sham, as it should now be painfully obvious that public opinion can always be molded by the various mind control techniques, subtle and overt, of the rich and powerful, I think it’s high time that we, the over-educated and under-employed of the technocratic class got hip, and figure out a way to grab the reigns of power and steer this runaway train back on tracks before the maniac bourgeois merchant class drives it straight off the cliff like some perverted Warner Bros. Loony Toon.

Personally, I’m partial to the social guild form explored in Neal Stephenson’s ‘The Diamond Age.’ Anybody else read that?

    I like the socio-politico-economic set-up in Norman Spinrad's _A World Between_.

Instant computer-assisted democracy; basic "share" or yearly dividend given to everyone, as everyone shares in the global economy -- allows for living independent of "working for a living" though those who want a capitalist chance at wealth also have that option through private enterprise; strong tolerance/appreciation for diverse lifestyles.
