.. GWB has gone too far for even THEM this time.

Hey kids, remember those funny little concepts like "freedom from persecution" and "civil liberties". Say goodbye to those, and hello to the "Military Commission’s Act of 2006"
www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15220450/

The writ of habeas corpus (burden of proof, basically) no longer applies to those deemed by a military tribunal formed and appointed by president or secretary of defense to be enemies or foreign hostiles. How are they proved to be "enemies or foreign hostiles", one might ask. See above; the writ of habeas corpus no longer applies..
In other words, you can be sentenced or held indefinitely, without stated cause, if you are declared a threat to security; and once you are, no proof need be given.

I wish I were exaggerating, or taking the alarmist position. This is real, this is now.

I'll be holding a funeral for the constitution in my back yard. Unless I'm wrongly imprisoned before then..

It is wierd there is not an uproar to this tragically submitted proposition. To add on to your offense list, this proposition states that people can not leave or enter the country without permission from the government, Dept. Homeland Sec. Now personally I think we should riot. But, everyone seems happy the way things are. However, it is not inacted NOW. it could be inacted but I think our congress will veto the whole thing. We still have a set of checks and balances not present in other fascist countries. But then again the patriot act should by constituional morals been vetoed as well. I hope this one does not run of the flag pole with out friction.

I agree, i find it horrifying that people aren't running down the streets screaming at their congressional representatives and senators. I think one of the biggest issues is the idea that words like "habeas corpus" makes people have to think back to government and decipher what (to them) must be an arcane bit of trivia.

people get bogged down in the mendacity (to use tennesse's term, well not his, but you get the idea) of their daily routine.
it's easier to let the global economy destroy the world.
